The look of the road and many of the houses have changed, but many of the stones in the low wall in the foreground at the edge of 50 Clark Point Road are still in place as they were in 1913.

The Bicycle Shop was moved and finally remodeled as the Herrick Building at 45 Clark Point Road next to the William Edgar and Fanny Carnes (Harmon) Herrick House, at 43 Clark Point Road. Both building are now gone.

The second visible house, number 11, was built by her son, Phillip Tracy Carroll, in 1932. The third visible house, number 17, was built by builder Robie Melvin Norwood Jr. for himself in 1924. Rebecca’s daughter Nellie “Nell” Rebecca (Carroll) Thornton built at 23 High Road in 1922. Another daughter, Alice (Carroll) Young built at 38 High Road in 1907. George Ashbridge Rhoads (1860-1935) built Indian Lot Cottage in 1927. Three Chimneys, 141 Clark Point Road, is visible behind and to the left of the trees. With all the visual aids from SWHPL 5525, and repeated searches, archivists could not locate the rocks in the old photographs or find the exact place where the people were sitting. The rocks were probably covered or removed when the land was cleared for the cottage and drive.

The cruise ship in the distance is the "MS Maasdam," a Holland America cruise ship built in 1993 by Italy’s Fincantieri Shipyards. She was named for a dam located on the Maas River in the Netherlands. “Maasdam” is an S class 10 deck cruise ship, 721.78’ long, 101.50 beam, 131.23’ high with a 24.93’ draught. She carries a crew of 580 and 1,258 passengers at a speed of 22 knots.

"I captured this scene from the end of the Manset Town dock. Though the view appears very wide, it's only about 90° from end to end. It seems wider because I shot it with a 200mm lens to get the detail along the shore with minimal water and sky. I stitched the panorama from 17 separate images taken left to right, each frame rotated 5° to the right of the previous one. Yesterday I saw this same scene while driving around to take the pictures posted here, but when I arrived at this spot the sun was too high and I didn't have my tripod with me. This morning I got up before dawn and set up my tripod on the snow-covered dock at 6:15 AM. Then I waited in the bitter cold for the sun to rise. Fresh snow that fell last night made the scene even better than it was yesterday. Sometimes it just works out that way. " -- George Soules
