The card was found by Ralph Stanley in the remains of Franklin Dolliver Ward's old machine shop in Manset before it was remodeled and became a restaurant.
The original Stanley House, Captain Sans Stanley, proprietor, was built circa 1875 "and was very popular as a summer hotel and patronized by many Harvard professors." It burned on July 10, 1884 and was rebuilt.
