"Before the days of summer boarders, Manset, shown here, was the hub of Southwest Harbor. The only post office south of Somesville lay in this corridor, along with the customs house and shipbuilding and fishing operations… Seen here is William Ward's house, right, overlooking his wharf on the shroe, which housed his store and bowling alley. The adjacent wharf is where John L. The photograph was probably taken from the Stanley House. The grey shingled building with sagging roof on the front left is Albert Bartlett's sail loft. The building to the left of the horizontally striped building is James Parker's fish shed. The mansard roofs of Ocean House Hotel and Cottage are visible just under the horizon. The photograph shows the Durgain shed and James Parker's Wharf.
