This collection of documents contains Howe Dwain Higgins’ collection of work logs spanning from October 1, 1928 through June 30, 1930. This covers nearly the last two years of his employment as a customs officer. The documents include more detailed information on Howe’s daily movements on the back sides of the documents. The index includes the documents’ file number, dates, and people or vessels of interest mentioned in the documents.

Back of photograph says “Anna Robinson worked in So West Hbr at same time Edna did as Telephone Operators.” Anna is passing the last shop on Clark Point Road that is part of the old Masonic Building (note granite base). The building is 353 Main Street. The building on the left, then T.W. Jackson's market is 10 Clark Point Road.

It is unknown exactly where Osmond was picking up hay, but it is probable that he was on Peter Theodore Benson Jr.'s land and two of Peter's children were helping load the hay. The Harpers and the Bensons were neighbors at Seawall. Osmond built his house at 475 Seawall Road, Map 19 - Lot 48, MHPC #405-1016, across the road and several lots toward Southwest Harbor from the Benson's land, in 1917.

W.H. Ballard took the photograph of Harvey Moore and used it as the image for a postcard titled, "Lobster Fisherman's Workshop" that became popular on Mount Desert Island. SWHPL 9472 was a duplicate of this item and has been removed.

Sinkler, Jr. - Richard would have been about 8 years old when this photograph was taken. People more informed than we may help us to positively identify this child. William Lukens Elkins Sinkler (1919-) Francis Milton Spurling (1896-1958) - sailed for the Sinkler family. The fish was a circa 500 lb. tuna (formerly called "Horse Mackerel" in these waters) - possibly the one described as being harpooned in “Leaves Folded Down” See: “Leaves Folded Down” by Louise E. [Elkins] Sinkler, privately published in a limited edition of 300 copies and a second edition of 500 copies of which the Southwest Harbor Public Library copy is number 228, Haverford House, Wayne, Pa., 1971, pages 109-110.
