This memorial to Waldron Bates is located on the south side of Gorham Mountain in Acadia National Park at the intersection of the Gorham Mountain Trail and the Cadillac Cliffs Path. The church steeple is just visible between the trees to the left of the telephone pole. Rebecca Carroll's house, 7 High Road is the first house on the left. The second visible house, number 11, was built by her son, Phillip Tracy Carroll, in 1932. The third visible house, number 17, was built by builder Robie Melvin Norwood Jr. for himself in 1924. Rebecca’s daughter Nellie “Nell” Rebecca (Carroll) Thornton built at 23 High Road in 1922. Another daughter, Alice (Carroll) Young built at 38 High Road in 1907. Compare this photograph to SWHPL 6350 in which Rebecca is shown standing at about the second tree on the left in this photograph.
