Phillips - Dr. Joseph Dana Phillips (1857-1942)

Joseph Dana Phillips was born to Luther Ames and Livonia Illsley Noyes Phillips on December 17, 1857 in Orland, Maine. "The family moved to Hancock Point when Dana was four years old in order for the family to have a lager sheep pasture. At 18, after graduating from the local schools, Dana joined the fishing fleet of the Grand Banks off the coast of Newfoundland to pay his way through the Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine from which he graduated in 1883. Dana married Carrie Frances Dix (1863-1892), daughter of John Dix and Emily Mayo (Bartlett) Dix, in 1887 in Tremont, Maine. After Carrieā€™s death he married Clara Adelaide Driscoll (1872-1964), daughter of Dennis Driscoll and Rose Standish (Gott) Driscoll of Gotts Island on April 10, 1901 in Tremont. Clara, born on September 14, 1872 in Tremont, was one of the first graduates of nursing at Portland General Hospital, later Maine Medical Center, in 1898.
