Mason - Mary Jane (Mason) Mason (1848-1932) aka Jennie

Mary Jane “Jennie” Mason (1848-1932) was born on June 9, 1848 to William Thomas Mason and Mercy Jane (Gott) Mason, in Somesville, Maine. Jennie’s great grandfather was William Mason (1772-1814) “of Mt. Desert,” married on November 26, 1789 to Mary “Mercy” Young (1772-) “of Eastham” in Eastham, Massachusetts. William died on September 12, 1814 after being wounded in the Battle of Norwood’s Cove during the War of 1812.

Joseph B. Mason married Mary Jane “Jennie” Mason (1848-1932) on March 7, 1868 in Ellsworth, Maine. Rev. S. Tenney performed the ceremony. The marriage of a Mason to a Mason, not previously connected by family is curious, but researchers have found no such connection. Joseph seems to have descended from ancestors from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a different family from that of Mary Jane Mason who descended from William Mason (1772-) who died at Mt. Desert Island.

Mary Jane “Jennie” (Mason) Mason, Mrs. Joseph B. Mason (1848-1932) raised money in 1892 to buy the land
for the Southwest Harbor Public Library building by running a “Dollar Social.”
