Cleaves - Charles Poole Cleaves (1869-1932)

Charles Poole Cleaves (1869-1932), minister, novelist, and poet, was born on November 4, 1869 to Thomas Gilman Cleaves and Justina (Poole) Cleaves in Yarmouth, Maine. Charles attended, and probably graduated from, Bangor Theological Seminary in 1893 and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1905. He married Alice Lavinia Lawrence (1870-1968), daughter of James Lawrence and Ellen M. (Marston) Lawrence, on June 12, 1893 in Yarmouth, Maine. “After spending a few days at Higgins Beach they will go to Enosburg, Vt., where Mr. Cleaves has accepted a call from the Congregational Church.” – Lewiston Evening Journal, June 14. 1893, p. 2.

Charles Poole Cleaves died on October 7, 1932 in Laconia, New Hampshire and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery at Crockett Corner, Falmouth, Maine.
