This 1912 photograph shows these members: Front Row - left to right: Ralph Judson Robinson (1870-1923) Everton Livingston Gott (1875-1954) - brother of Clyde Smith Gott Frank L. While the photograph is old and in disrepair, up close the desks and chairs can be seen to shine indicating that, if not new, they were at least kept very clean. The side wall on the left of this old school was constructed of boards tightly nailed together. The back wall was painted brick. The drawings of children with pinafores, pinned to the left wall, were done by the children and in crayon. We know that the photograph was taken in October from the owls and black cats and autumn leaf décor, still universally used in school rooms around Halloween. Students Rows Left to Right - Front to Back: First Row on Left: Unknown girl Unknown girl Unknown girl Unknown girl Teacher - standing Second Row: Marian F. Clark (1893-1973) Unknown boy Unknown girl Unknown girl Unknown boy Third Row: Unknown girl Unknown girl Unknown boy Unknown girl Unknown girl Fourth Row Far Right: Unknown boy Unknown boy Unknown girl Unknown boy Unknown boy Unknown boy

The teacher appears to be the same teacher as shown in SWHPL 11903 – with Freeman Grammar School 1926 students. She may have been either Feodora Woodworth or Doris Motz both of whom taught in the "common school" in 1925-1926 and 1926-1927. Doris Motz's husband, Ralph Motz, also taught at the Freeman Grammar School.

"This is a picture of the 5th and 6th graders at the Freeman Grammar School taken in 1916. It appears to be a special occasion with the flowers on the desk and the students all looking so serious as their photograph is being taken. This room is located upstairs at Harbor House on the side of the building next to the Lawrence S. Robinson Co. I attended the 4th and 5th grades in that room. It was sunnier than the rooms on the north side of the building, so when my fourth grade teacher, Gladys Whitmore, retired the fifth grade teacher, Bertha Reed, seized the opportunity to move the fifth grade across the hall. I recall feeling a bit disappointed at first that I would not get to be in a different room in the fifth grade, but as I like lots of sun, I think overall I lucked out after all." - Meredith Hutchins 01/24/2012

Taken on the same day as SWHPL 6077, but with the teachers standing in different places. The identities were written on the back of SWHPL 11752, taken on the same day. The children seem to be in the same places, but the teachers are standing in different places. Researchers have identified the children, but not the order in which they appear. The children whose places are noted below may apply to one or the other of the photographs. Teachers are Luther Bridges of Blue Hill and Alice E. Mason (1879-1964). James L.
