The third visible house, number 17, was built by builder Robie Melvin Norwood Jr. for himself in 1924. Rebecca’s daughter Nellie “Nell” Rebecca (Carroll) Thornton built at 23 High Road in 1922. Another daughter, Alice (Carroll) Young built at 38 High Road in 1907. Three Chimneys, 141 Clark Point Road, is visible behind and to the left of the trees. With all the visual aids from SWHPL 5525, and repeated searches, archivists could not locate the rocks in the old photographs or find the exact place where the people were sitting. The rocks were probably covered or removed when the land was cleared for the cottage and drive. Gray house was begun by Henry Tracy as a residence for Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hodgkins, who had purchased the land from J. A. Freeman. The cellar was just completed and some of the lumber on the spot when Mr. Hodgkins died. Later, the property was purchased by Mr. Gray and the house built as his home. Work begun on it November 27, 1907, and the Grays moved in on February 10, 1908. Mr. Gray built the store to the south of his house in 1931. Though the view appears very wide, it's only about 90° from end to end. It seems wider because I shot it with a 200mm lens to get the detail along the shore with minimal water and sky. I stitched the panorama from 17 separate images taken left to right, each frame rotated 5° to the right of the previous one. Yesterday I saw this same scene while driving around to take the pictures posted here, but when I arrived at this spot the sun was too high and I didn't have my tripod with me. This morning I got up before dawn and set up my tripod on the snow-covered dock at 6:15 AM. Then I waited in the bitter cold for the sun to rise. Fresh snow that fell last night made the scene even better than it was yesterday. Sometimes it just works out that way.
