The Digital Archive is the Southwest Harbor Public Library’s collection of historic and contemporary photographs, articles, documents, maps, books, advertising, and other materials. The general public may view the collection online via the Digital Archive website or through other websites that reference the collection such as the Digital Public Library of America. The Digital Archive website displays photographs and other images in a form that is suitable for viewing with a web browser, but is unsuitable for creating high quality prints.
The Library may charge a service fee to patrons who request high quality digital or print copies of materials from the Digital Archive. Payment of the fee does not grant to the patron any permissions or rights whatsoever. The Library charges the fee solely to defray reproduction costs and to help fund the growth and maintenance of the Digital Archive.
The Library generally does not own rights to material in the Digital Archive collection. Therefore, it does not charge permission fees for use of such material and cannot give or deny permission to publish or otherwise distribute material in its collection. It is the patron’s obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in the Digital Archive.
